Happy to help

When we last discussed the NBC2 - Southern Baptist controversy, there was a difference in views between two of the main participants - Keith Hinson, an associate in Communications Services for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, and Darrel Adams, news director for Waterman Broadcasting (which owns NBC-2).

A recap of their positions (go here for links to original sources):

[HINSON] At no time was anyone deprived of water. In fact, there was a huge surplus of bottled and canned water available at the Clewiston relief site. There was never any disruption in the supply of water being given out to members of the public who continued to receive food, water and other types of assistance from Alabama Baptist Disaster Relief workers.

It is an absolute falsehood to suggest -- as many irresponsible bloggers have -- that the Baptist volunteers withheld the basic needs of life from Floridians impacted by the hurricane. Contrary to misinterpretations of news reports, no one was denied access to water.
[ADAMS] We stand by the facts reported in our story....No water was being given to the people in line until an alternative to the Anheuser-Busch product arrived.

So here's how I suggested that the impasse be resolved:

[P]erhaps Darrel Adams and Keith Hinson ought to get together and have a little chat.

Word of advice to Darrel - don't invite Keith to a bar. You want to start things off on the right foot.

So, should Hinson go to Fort Myers, or should Adams go to Montgomery? Based upon the current status, perhaps they should meet somewhere in between.

Lake City, Florida, within driving distance of Jacksonville (should one or both of them choose to fly) and near the interchange for Interstates 75 and 10, is a possibility.

But where should they meet? As I previously mentioned, bars are out of the question. So I checked area restaurants:

Hardee's
279 W Duval St, Lake City, FL
(386) 754-1848

This was the first restaurant on the list. Not looking encouraging; I don't know if I'd want to discuss the role of the media and the role of relief agencies over a Six Dollar Burger. Hopefully the list will improve in a bit.

iHOP
3322 US Highway 90, Lake City, FL
(386) 755-2502

Slightly better, I guess.

Arby's
3289 W US Highway 90, Lake City, FL
(386) 758-9193

Burger King
25 S 1st St, Lake City, FL
(386) 758-9633

Pizza Boy Pizza
618 S Marion Ave # 101, Lake City, FL
(386) 719-6488

Word of advice - pizza might not be the best idea. What if they can't agree on a pizza? Better to go to places where they can get their own individual meals.

Papa John's Pizza
2815 W Us Highway 90, Lake City, FL
(386) 961-9797

Ruppert's Bakery & Cafe
134 N Marion St, Lake City, FL
(386) 758-3088

Now we might be getting somewhere, or we might not. You have to be a local to know whether Ruppert's is any good or not, and I'm not a local, nor are Hinson and Adams.

Hungry Howie's Pizza & Subs
1701 S 1st St, Lake City, FL
(386) 755-7050

Shirley's Restaurant
746 E Duval St, Lake City, FL
(386) 755-9130

Hardee's Restaurant
279 W Duval St, Lake City, FL
(386) 752-6621

Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken & Biscuits
205 W Duval St, Lake City, FL
(386) 755-3960

Grand China Buffet
345 W Duval St, Lake City, FL
(386) 754-3788

Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q
4457 W US Highway 90, Lake City, FL
(386) 752-1117

Ruby Tuesday Restaurants
245 SW Commerce Dr, Lake City, FL
(386) 719-3845

Chasteen's Downtown
204 N Marion St, Lake City, FL
(386) 752-7504

Wildflower Cafe
426 N Marion St, Lake City, FL
(386) 754-1150

Dunno about this one. "Wildflower" may be a little too...uh...liberal for the SBC's tastes. If Hinson is asked, "Would you like hemp with your tofu?" he'll bust out of the place.

DeSoto Drugs Restaurant
297 N Marion Ave, Lake City, FL
(386) 752-9958

DeSoto may be a fine place, but the name may cause a problem.

Cox Barbq
294 SW Saint Johns St, Lake City, FL
(386) 758-8107

Likewise.

McDonald's Hamburgers of Baya Ave
701 S 1st St, Lake City, FL
(386) 755-3007

Sisters Snack Bar
1502 E Washington St, Lake City, FL
(386) 752-3922

Kountry Korner Restaurant
1916 N Marion St, Lake City, FL
(386) 752-4833

Ken's Bar-B-Q
2580 S 1st St, Lake City, FL
(386) 752-6725

Sonic-Drive In
2395 S 1st St, Lake City, FL
(386) 754-6161

Mc Donald's
4437 W US Highway 90, Lake City, FL
(386) 752-7037

Fu King Chinese Restaurant
1101 S 1st St, Lake City, FL
(386) 752-6044

In addition to the name, Chinese restaurants (other than buffets) have the same problem as pizza places. What if they can't agree on the entrees?

There are plenty of additional places, but I think more research is needed before we can select a meeting place for Hinson and Adams.

Ha! You crack me up! BTW, most pizza places serve beer, so scratch those. And the China Buffet in my town serves liquor.
