Mary Sue Kitts
You may hear this name a lot in the next month. Then again, you may not. Actually, there are four names that you may hear about:
Mary Sue Kitts, 17
Bryon Schletewitz, 27,
Josephine Rocha, 17,
Douglas White, 18
Let's start with the first one. Here's what the California Attorney General has to say:
[The prisoner] already was serving a life sentence in Folsom Prison for orchestrating the 1974 murder of Mary Sue Kitts....
The Ninth Circuit explained:
"...[The prisoner] was convicted of directing the murder of Mary Sue Kitts, his own son's live-in girlfriend. This murder was motivated by [the prisoner's] oft-spoken hatred for "rats"....
Here's some more detail from Debra J. Saunders:
The ugly saga starts in 1974. [The prisoner] owned a security company. According to court documents, he enlisted the help of his son Roger and two employees to rob Fran's Market, a store east of Fresno owned by the Schletewitz family, whom [the prisoner] had known for years.
Roger...invited the Schletewitz son, Bryon, to a party. While Bryon was swimming, someone took his keys. The...gang then robbed the store. Later, Roger's 17-year-old girlfriend, Mary Sue Kitts, confessed to Bryon that she helped cash money orders stolen from the market. Bryon confronted Roger...and also confirmed that Kitts had told him what happened.
[The prisoner] then ordered that Kitts be murdered. Between threatening phone calls from [the prisoner], an accomplice strangled the poor girl. When Bryon learned Kitts was missing, he went to authorities.
After a 1977 trial, a jury convicted [the prisoner] of burglary, conspiracy and first-degree murder. He was sentenced to life without parole.
To be continued...
