William Nesler Trial Started

A jury has been selected:

A jury of eight men and four women was selected Thursday in the murder case against Willie Nesler, the son of vigilante Ellie Nesler who gunned down his alleged molester in court.

Opening statements in the case against Nesler and an alleged accomplice were scheduled to begin Friday in Tuolumne County Superior Court, said court administrator Fran Jurcso.

Nesler, 23, is accused of fatally beating David Davis, 45, an hour after being freed from jail for previously assaulting Davis, whom he had hired to clean up his family's blighted property....

The trial is taking place about four miles from the former courthouse where Ellie Nesler killed Daniel Driver as he was shackled during a break at hearing to determine if he would stand trial for sexually assaulting Willie Nesler and three other boys.

She was convicted of manslaughter by a jury, but her conviction was overturned. After winning her appeal, she reached a deal with prosecutors to remain free after serving three years because she was suffering from cancer.

She's currently serving a six-year sentence on charges related to methamphetamine production....

The [William Nesler] case is being held in the same courthouse where his mother was tried for the shooting, but in a different courtroom.

The trial started Friday:

While jailed for assaulting a man he had hired to clean up his family's blighted property, Willie Nesler told several people he would kill his victim when he got the chance, a prosecutor said Friday....

The murder trial opened in Tuolumne County Superior Court Friday with prosecutors playing four audio tapes for the jury on which they claim Nesler, 23, implicated himself in Davis' death.

Most of the taped conversations, recorded while Nesler was in jail, were muffled and difficult to understand. On one, however, Nesler can be heard telling his aunt, "I'll kill him when I get out," according to the Union Democrat newspaper of Sonora....

The trial...resumes Monday....

See previous information from May 4 and April 8. No word on whether Ellie Nesler is still in the medical unit at Valley State Prison for Women, 21633 Avenue 24, Chowchilla, CA 93610.
