AUSTRALIA's latest Miss Universe contender has flown to Thailand to join hundreds of other hopefuls for three weeks of events leading up to the pageant's glamorous finale.
Perth teenager Michelle Guy is hoping to take the crown from Australia's reigning Miss Universe, Jennifer Hawkins, at the May 31 Bangkok event.
The 19-year-old health sciences student will be accompanied by a $50,000 wardrobe, including a one-off evening gown worth $10,000.
Ms Guy said she was going to do her best but was doubtful about her prospects for success.
"No country has ever won two years in a row, so with Jennifer having won last year the odds are against me," she said in the Sunday Times.
Last year, Ms Hawkins, a Bondi-based model and Newcastle Knights NRL team cheerleader, became the first Australian to win the coveted title since Perth's Kerry Ann Wells was crowned in 1972.
