Britney Spears and Reality
The woman whom Annika has lovingly named "American Skankwoman" has a reality TV show. Reality News Online summarizes the first episode as follows:
Britney Spears likes to talk about sex. She also likes to get others to talk about sex. Then she has some sex. Are you sensing a theme? Her mother should definitely not watch this show.
Entertainment Weekly's take:
Us magazine has a regular feature called ''Stars: They're Just Like Us.'' This show could be called ''Stars: They're Just Like You, Except Nowhere Near As Smart, But They've Got So Much Money It Doesn't Matter, So Just Sit There and Hate Your Hard-Working Life As They Spend Twice Your Weekly Paycheck on a Solid-Gold Key Chain That They'll Leave in a Bathroom the Next Day and Forget They Ever Bought.''
Jillian Kuras, writing for Reality TV Calendar, states the following:
Tonight is the season premiere of the new Britney Spears reality show Chaotic. The show was designed to give her fans an inside look of her life through the lens of her own personal camcorder.
My friends and I (all in our twenties) have been big fans of Britney since the beginning and have been to several of her concerts. Sure she may not be the best singer, but she’s a great performer and a great dancer. She is the true definition of “pop star”....
Britney is also narrating the show and is seated in comfy looking room talking about the tour. She tells us that at the time she was lonely and missing her family so she used her video camera to distract her. Her first topic of conversation tonight is commitment and relationships....
Narrated Britney tells us that yes she is a Bitter Betty but that she longs for companionship. She adds that she can’t get a certain guy out of her head. We next see a shot of the man himself, Kevin Freeloader. Oops, I mean Federline....
Britney interviews J.C. Chasez who is opening for her on her England tour stops. At first he won’t answer and appears embarrassed but after much harassing by Britney, he says he is a bad boy and likes many positions. Narrated Britney says she is surprised by how shy J.C. was.
Britney now has the camera turn on herself to answer the question. She tells her mom, dad and sister Jamie Lynn to turn away but ultimately never answers the question....
I’m not sure why they decided to do a tell all show like this one. It was obvious when Nick and Jessica launched their show it was to hopefully boost their C list careers. Sure Jessica had an album out before the show but it sold what, 12 copies? And yes, Nick was somewhat successful in 98 degrees, but he was part of a group. No one knew which one was Nick. Thanks solely to the show, which I personally never watched because I can't stand either of them, their careers are much more successful now.
As for Britney, she was already an A list pop star so it’s not like she needed to get herself in the spot light. It is an interesting show though and if you didn’t see it this week, check it out next week. It’s entertaining at least which is more than some other reality shows.
Is Britney an A list celebrity? In an article saying how Madonna is an overrated celebrity, there's a dig at Britney also:
She was the first performer NOT to be harmed by the discovery of an old sex movie, and a pioneer in concert lip-synching (no wonder she kissed Britney Spears; they both needed to do something with their mouths). A whole second generation of "pop tarts" following in her footsteps prove that it wasn't that hard to do in the first place.
