(NOTE: I just lost a long post about Jackson Browne, not due to Blogger issues, but to a faulty Internet connection. No great loss.)
From The Australian:
The Paramount studio is considering scrapping production of the Tom Cruise film Mission: Impossible III, as Hollywood insiders suggest the actor's obsession with Scientology is damaging his career.
A Paramount executive told The New York Times the studio had not yet decided whether to push ahead with production of Mission: Impossible III, one of its most valuable franchises and a project on which tens of millions of dollars have already been spent. Shooting was planned to begin in Italy on July 18 and to continue on location in Europe and elsewhere.
The uncertainty comes as Paramount prepares to release War of the Worlds, a big-budget science fiction epic directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Cruise.
In promoting the film, Cruise has set tongues wagging with his discussion of Scientology, calling it his "religion", and his constant professions of love for his girlfriend, starlet Katie Holmes.
Many Hollywood actors are involved with Scientology, and there is nothing particularly unusual about trumpeting a new love, the paper said, but executives at Paramount have voiced concern that fans were becoming distracted from the $US130million ($174million) movie by the antics....
In a series of television interviews, Cruise spoke at length about his passion for Scientology, at one point criticising actor Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants. Scientology considers modern psychiatry and its medications to be harmful.
