Air America and Hillbilly Heroin (I'm a LAB Cowboy)
Random thoughts:

  • Some Yahoo! searches for Russ Heldman have hit one of my old blog posts, which reminded me to check up on Mindy McCready's current legal situation. Turns out that this was resolved long ago:

Run ins with the law happened to a few artists in 2004. Mindy McCready was arrested and charged with presenting a fake prescription for painkillers in August. She pleaded guilty in November and was sentenced to 3 years supervised probation, a $4000 fine and 200 hours of community service. Marty Stuart was was arrested for drunk driving in June after having a minor traffic accident. He was sentenced in July to 11 months and 29 days in jail, but that was suspended, he served 2 days in jail. This was his second DUI in three years. Lynn Anderson was charged with DWI in December while in Texas. She was arrested and released on a $1000 bond.

  • Regarding Russ Heldman himself, he's more famous for a First Amendment ruling that he made in 2003:

Harlie "Bill" Walker, from Franklin, Tenn...flashed his car headlights at other motorists this past August [2003] to warn of a speed trap ahead. The city said Walker had violated an ordinance, and fined him $10 plus court costs. He and a town attorney appealed to the circuit court, where Judge Russ Heldman cleared Walker of all charges, saying that flashing lights to warn of a police officer is protected by the First Amendment.

  • I listened to Air America on KTLK this morning, and remembered why I don't like Rush Limbaugh (Rush Limbaugh and Mindy McCready in the same entry - geddit?). It's this basic programming thingie where the red station says "Blue sucks," and the blue station says "Red sucks." Pretty vacant, if you ask me (which you didn't). At least John and Ken have the decency to attack everybody, left/right, blue/red, whatever. Can't we have a radio station where two conservatives get in a shouting match, or two liberals get in a shouting match? Or is that too complex a concept for the programmers to understand?

  • Krystal Fernandez is now "LAB K," where LAB stands for "Line Around Block," following yesterday's 8 x 10 signing at an FYE in Jacksonville, Florida.
