Republican Presidential Candidate is Dead
I just noticed that people are reaching my blog after searching for "Albertha Brinson."

It turns out that on January 22, 2004, I had posted a list of other 2004 Republican presidential candidates, taken from politics1.com. That post contained the following statement:

Albertha Moultrie Brinson filed paperwork with the FEC declaring her candidacy "for nomination as the Republican [Presidential] challenger to the Rev. Al Sharpton."

Well, I did the same Google search that several other people had done, and turned up several items, including this one from Dan's Papers:

DEAD WOMAN IDENTIFIED

A woman who apparently died of natural causes in a house in East Hampton now owned by Pastor Calvin Butts and the Abyssinian Baptist Church has been identified. She was Albertha Brinson, 58, a former member of the church whose last known address was a homeless shelter in Manhattan. It is believed she was enamored of Rev. Butts, and had moved into this abandoned home on the Montauk Highway with no electricity or plumbing because of her obsession with him. She had a forged identification card identifying herself as his wife. Seems she was a stalker, or a groupie. Butts had no knowledge of her.

A body found earlier this month inside an East Hampton home bequeathed to a prominent Harlem minister, the Rev. Calvin O. Butts III, has been identified as that of a homeless woman who had a history of harassing him, village police said.

On Sept. 3, Albertha M. Brinson, 58, was found in a back room of the Montauk Highway home that is owned by Butts, who is the head of the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem and president of SUNY Old Westbury.

It is believed Brinson was dead at least a month before an architect who was doing work on the home saw the body....

Police found a folder full of newspaper clippings featuring Butts. Larsen said Brinson was known to harass the minister in the past and seemed to be an ardent admirer....

Butts' attorney, Joseph Fleming of Manhattan, said Brinson was a member of the church several years ago and appeared obsessed with the minister.

"If you look up the word 'stalking' in the dictionary, it would describe all the things she did," Fleming said. "For whatever reason, she latched on to Rev. Butts and would not let go."

Butts did not know Brinson personally and reported her actions to authorities, even though he never considered her dangerous....

An Italian political website tellingly lists her name as "Albertha Brinson-Butts," and PJStar.com refers to "Albertha Moullrie (sic) Brinson-Butts."

The New York City Campaign Finance Board website lists "Albertha Moultrie" as Treasurer of the Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Democratic Club. The same Albertha Moultrie is listed as Treasurer of the Citizen's Committee for Bert B - their candidate was "Albertha Butts-Brinson."

Albertha Butts-Brinson was also a 2001 candidate for Council District 21, but her vote total was not recorded.

CampaignMoney.com has a whole page on Albertha Brinsonbutts' candidacy for President. No contributions are recorded. It is associated with a political committee called Cleon's Mom for President.

However, I finally discovered the truth about Brinson (or Brinson-Butts or Butts-Brinson or whatever) on a web page from cosmologies.com. Yet I'm still not sure that they're right about Ralph Nader or Tom Laughlin. Excerpts:
