Political Donations of the Rich, Famous, and Powerful
In my last post, I included a link to Gloria Allred's political campaign contributions, as reported by the FEC and newsmeat.com.
It turns out that newsmeat.com includes links to campaign contribution information for a number of celebrities.
- Alan Alda, Jane Fonda, Al Franken, and Martin Sheen contribute to Democrats. Stop the presses.
- WTF? Ed Asner is a Lyndon LaRouche supporter! Who'd have thunk it?
- Drew Carey supported a Democratic Ohio politician, John Goodman supported a Democratic Louisiana politician, John Bongiovi (Bon Jovi) once donated to the Italian American Democratic Leadership Council, and Ted Nugent has donated to both a Democrat and a Republican from Michigan. They haven't lost their roots.
- Bill Cosby has repeatedly supported Jesse Jackson, Jr. in his Congressional efforts. There are similarities in Cosby's philosophy and Jackson's father's PUSH philosophy.
- Angie Dickinson twice donated to Ted Kennedy's Senate campaigns.
- Clint Eastwood's only listed contribution was to a Democrat.
- Jamie Farr is a true blue Republican, as are Jaclyn Smith, Merv Griffin, Amy Grant, George Brett, Nolan Ryan, Karl Malone, Troy Aikman, Joe Gibbs, Curt Gowdy, Vin Scully, Al Michaels, Pat Summerall, Lance Ito, and (stop the presses) William Buckley, Matt Drudge, Tom Landry, Roger Staubach, and Ken Starr (though it should be noted that Starr made no Federal political contributions between January 1995 and October 2000).
- Sally Field really really likes Dianne Feinstein.
- Arnold Schwarzenegger donates to both Republicans and Democrats, but all of the Democrats have names like "Shriver" and "Kennedy." Maria Shriver only donates to the latter.
- Ben Stein (ex Nixon Administration) is a financial supporter of Ralph Nader. So he has something in common with Woody Harrelson and Noam Chomsky.
- Charlie Daniels' only listed contribution was to then-Senator Al Gore.
- Larry Flynt has donated to Republicans, Democrats, and Libertarians, though I suspect he donated to Clinton in an effort to get the publishing rights to his story.
- Joe Theismann's only listed political contribution was to fellow quarterback Jack Kemp.
- In May 1996, Monica Lewinsky donated $250 to the Democratic National Committee. (I have to assume that Lewinsky was not under Hatch Act restrictions.) She has not donated since.
