The French
Paul Musgrave has posted about French foreign policy. A very small excerpt:

No, the French are not wusses. They are jerks. Somehow, Paris has managed to flout international conventions large and small yet still win points for being multilateral "good guys" (and, yes, the rest of the world really does think that "multilateral" is generally a compliment). That Paris maintains one of the world's largest nuclear stockpiles (okay, fourth-largest); that Paris has a habit of knocking off African governments; and that Paris is more aggressively secular than American Atheists, Inc.--all of these facts are somehow forgotten....

France has, somehow, managed to pursue a highly selfish policy, one that incorporates many of the features of American policies that the world dislikes most strongly, without becoming the subject of worldwide disapproval. They are, I think, clearly irresponsible in some ways: They do not spend enough on defence, and they are too unwilling to act in cooperation with other countries. Nonetheless, their reputation is of team players who are willing to stand up to the Americans (one of France's biggest strengths, in the eyes of much of the Third World, is that it is simply not-America). And they, therefore, wield more influence than they should, by any objective measure....

The American Thinker cited other writings on French foreign policy:

The current issue of the Hoover Institution's Policy Review has the first English translation of a remarkable document ("Outline of a Doctrine of French Policy") written in 1945....This appears to have become a guiding light to French diplomats and politicians over the last 60 years.

The thesis begins with an understanding that the post WW II world will be split into a US-dominated bloc and a Russian-dominated bloc. Kojeve called on France to develop a third bloc -- which he called the Latin bloc....[He] called for an accommodation and partnership with Islamic nations, and stated that this unity can be based on a mutual opposition to other trends (the enemy of my enemy is my friend)....

Only this transformation would ensure continued French power in opposition to the Anglo alliance lead by America.
