Cable mashup suggestion

We could create peace in my family if someone would combine the Food Network with the Fox Soccer Channel. Have Alton Brown and Michelle Lissel host a show in which English and Spanish contestants cook tasty dishes on opposite ends of the pitch.

But instead they combine the WB and UPN. And there's a big tussle - about the commute, of all things. (I'm not sympathetic.)

With less than six months to go before the CW's launch, a behind-the-scenes battle has been brewing over where it will be located. Most employees of the WB, who are used to driving to Burbank, want the CW to be in the San Fernando Valley, while UPN folks are lobbying to stay near their current Brentwood-adjacent address.

"Between West L.A. and Burbank in the Valley, it's the two ends of the world," Moonves said this week, acknowledging the constituencies on either side of "the hill."

I really don't care, since both "constituencies" hate the 909.

We went to the 909 last night. Yeah, the 909. It wasn't our first choice. But that's where our friend Guy's band "The Tank" were playing. Not only were they the best band on the bill, but they played one of my favorite songs. They played a cover of X's song "Los Angeles".

But Los Angeles itself isn't that monolithic, as this post notes:

"You classify new people you meet by their Area Code. An "818" would
never date a "562" and anyone from "323" or "213" is ghetto / second class.
Best area code: "714/949." Nobody likes anyone from the "909" because it
stinks there."
