Returning to Tim Liotta

An update:

Somewhat to my surprise on Tuesday morning [February 21], I dialled over to Sports Leader KNBR/680 and found Brian Murphy working with a new partner, Paulie Mack, previously with co-owned The Ticket 1050 (KTCT) and The Bone (KSAN/107.7). Former KNBR morning show co-host Tim Liotta moves back to his previous post as the station's creative director...

But Tim Liotta still has his column, but the end of the column has been updated:

Tim Liotta is the creative director for KNBR (680 AM) and KTCT (1050 AM).

And what's he talking about? The greatness that is Barry Bonds.

Barry Bonds surfaced from his offseason looking for love, saying he’s not going to play baseball again after this season. His legs hurt. He’s taking painkillers. All this in one afternoon.

By evening, with nobody perishing at the notion of baseball without Bonds, Barry changes his tune, saying he might just play next year afterall. Great, Barry, grab a bat.

Then, after a night thinking about it, Bonds is looking for love in new places. The idea of a season or two in the American League, filling a designated hitter’s role, just doesn’t sound right to Bonds, who suddenly professes himself a lifer in left field....

The Giants...by season’s end will have paid Bonds $90 million for his last five years of baseball.

And what a five-year run it’s been. The franchise record for homers. A record 73 homers in a season. A batting title. Six hundred career home runs.

He passes Willie Mays on the all-time home run list. Five hundred stolen bases. Seven hundred homers. Only Ruth and Aaron are left to chase. One historic moment after another.

But, now that Barry sees the millions about come to an end, he’s looking for a little more love. And you know Barry’s going to get awfully grumpy if he doesn’t find it.

How long will it take? His first hot streak? First slump? “Where’s the love”, he’ll want to know. “How can I concentrate if I don’t see some love”, he’ll say. There will be a few “2007 sounds great” trial balloons, and when nobody in the Giants’ front office jumps, things will go bad, pronto.

Bonds has set up the Giants to be the bad guys, and he’s setting himself up for a final season filled with bitterness instead of the curtain call of thanks Giants fans would love to show him.

Well, perhaps Bonds will find love on TV:

Baseball slugger Barry Bonds, one of the most private and prickly giants of pro sports, has agreed to appear in a weekly reality television show....

In an announcement on Wednesday, Bonds said he would open himself for a weekly show on the cable station ESPN, starting next month.

"At the age of 42 to finally have a chance to catch legends like Babe and Hank is really a mind-blowing honor," said Bonds, who turns 42 in July.

"This is a project that we're both passionate about and feel we have the opportunity to capture a unique behind-the-scenes experience that fans will be able to enjoy each week."

Bonds has often expressed bitterness about the media, especially since his personal trainer was jailed last year in the BALCO steroid scandal....

Wednesday's announcement follows an unusual appearance by the outfielder at spring training when he appeared in drag.

On his web site, Bonds said the Giants were initiating rookies and the club held a "Giants Idol" competition based on the television show "American Idol."

Portraying judge Paula Abdul, Bonds wore a black dress, gold jewelry and a carmel-colored wig.

"I really wanted to have some fun with the guys so I decided to really let loose and go all out," Bonds said....

And why did Barry portray Paula? Because, as I said earlier, Paula is more popular than Simon. Although Simon's arms look like they may have been "enhanced."
