Good Taste? Not on THIS cooking show.

Attention Span links to this story:

Britney Spears will guest star on an episode of "Will & Grace," NBC announced Tuesday.

The pop star will appear as a Christian conservative sidekick to Sean Hayes' character, Jack, who hosts his own talk show, on the April 13 episode, the network said.

Jack's fictional network, Out TV, is bought by a Christian TV network, leading to Spears contributing a cooking segment called "Cruci-fixin's."

Profusion123 notes that some are not happy:

The American Family Association immediately raised objections to the planned episode, saying it "mocks the crucifixion of Christ" and will "further denigrate Christianity" by airing the night before Good Friday.
"NBC does not treat Jews, Muslims or other religions with such disrespect," the Mississippi-based group said on its Web site. "Yet the network demonstrates a deep hostility toward followers of Christ."

The Dumb Ox isn't happy either:

The National Blasphemy Company is set to air an episode of the pathetic Will and Grace where a TV cooking show prepares some "Cruci-fixins" because of a convoluted story line that has one purpose alone: to mock religious people and to mock the Passion.

Meanwhile, a divinity student wonders why people care what Will and Grace are doing:

Pardon me if I fail to find a little religious humor offensive in the midst of a program that has for eight years straight (gay?) glorified degenerate behavior (both heterosexual and homosexual) and generally vulgar attitudes with a splash of secular moralism for a hint of liberal self-righteousness. So they're planning to make some Jesus jokes on Maundy Thursday. Why would a Christian care what was on TV that night? Aren't we planning to be, let's see... in Church?

CMoore also has an opinion:

Will and Grace are going to do a play on words so old that my Grandmother probably saw it at her first church picnic as a little girl....

Today I got a letter begging me to write NBC and ask them not to air an episode of Will and Grace set for April 16th. It seems that the story line is going to have a Christian Broadcast station, owned by a character played by Brittany Spears, buy up the Gay station that the Jack character is working at. To make a short story even shorter, Brittany’s character decides to air a Christian Cooking Show which is called…..wait for it…….”Cruci-Fixins”

According to Wildmon’s rant, this mocks the Christian faith, it mocks the crucifixion of Christ, and it shows a “deep hositlity” toward the followers of Christ. Nah....

First of all, this is an old joke. Heck we used to set up tables at the church picnics when I was a kid that had signs that said “Cruci-Fixins” on them. That along with tables that had “Loaves and Fishes”, “Living Water”. We used to put signs on the cafeteria door the last night of Church camp that declared the “Last Supper”. Heck the “Cruci-Fixens” gag has been used on the Simpson’s already....

And as for me...I have all of these recipes popping into my head. Let's see...take a sitcom that's really popular with a lot of people, one that is classified as "edgy" (ooooooo), written by the talented folk of Hollywood, edited by their talented editors, and starring the woman who kissed Madonna while sharing Kabbalah bracelets. What kind of recipes will we see? (To heighten the effect of these wonderful recipe ideas, I've gone to the KOER studios and found the "network sitcom laugh track.")

Cross Fish Sticks! [HA HA HA HA HA HA]

Strawberry Nail Surprise! [HA HA HA HA HA HA]

PopoZao! (no laughter, just tears)

Thorn Donuts! [HA HA HA HA HA HA]

(At this point a network exec screams, "You're killing me Larry!" And then he goes home and goes to bed. Local joke. Sorry.)

Is the American Family Association EVER happy about ANYTHING? Why on earth Christians would expect secular TV to portray us kindly is beyond me.

But the AFA will defend a university student's right to talk about the boobs of other university students. More here.
