Not sons of the pioneers - I *am* the pioneer

Specially, this blog entry will be the first blog entry recorded by search.blogger.com to include the phrase "sexi luv."

What, there aren't any late-era Devo-era fans in the blogosphere?

Incidentally, I had never heard Dove the Band of Love until a couple of years ago (in a video of "Worried Man"), but when I first heard "Sexi Luv," I imagined that was what Dove the Band of Love sounded like.

For more on Dove the Band of Love, check this 1979 concert review:

I have a few memories of being really blown away by X, which filled the Arena with the unmistaken sound of Exene and John Doe. Ironically, the crowd was not into X and might have even booed them. Different fans, I guess. I also have vivid memories of being totally fooled by the opening band "Dove the Band of Love." I remember thinking before the show, "these guys are going to suck!" Then I was really surprised when the band (which each had a letter on their uniforms, arranged by person to spell "DOVE") switched around at the end of their set to spell DEVO. It was one of those classic moments in rock & roll for me. You could feel the entire arena sort of pause...and then simultaneously everyone got the joke and the place erupted. Devo then put on an amazing set, which, again, I have only vague memories of the actual music, but vivid memories of the frenzy in the arena.

I'd post my Devo concert review at that same website, but I don't remember the details. All I can say is that the concert occurred somewhere in Portland, Oregon during the 1981-1982 school year, and that one of the guitarists broke a string and it made no difference in the sound.
