I feel bad. I happen to like the Germans.

Der Wacko Jacko:

Michael Jackson wants to move to Berlin because he has fallen in love with the city, his father Joe told Germany's Bild newspaper Thursday.

The mass-circulation paper and several German dailies said the U.S. pop star...was fond of Berlin's zoo, the beauty of nearby Potsdam and supportive European fans....

Joe Jackson told a news conference in Berlin Wednesday he planned to celebrate his 76th birthday in the German capital on Friday with several of his children and 1,000 fans. He said he hoped Michael would come but was uncertain if he would attend.

Last month a court in Santa Maria, California, acquitted the 46-year-old pop star of child sex abuse charges that had threatened to destroy his career. Jackson then went to the Gulf Arab country of Bahrain on a private visit to relax....

And there's an update about Papa Joe's birthday. Surprise...guess who didn't show up:

Ending weeks of speculation, Michael Jackson announced Thursday he would not be coming to Berlin for a three-day Jackson clan party at a suburban hotel in honour of his father Joe Jackson's 76th birthday.

The tersely worded announcement was made on Jackson's official website....

The elder Jackson arrived at the Estrel Wednesday along with his wife Katherine, 77. Siblings who have arrived or are due to arrive include sisters LaToya, 49, Janet, 39, and brother Jermaine.

Michael himself is reported to be recovering from the trial at a resort in Dubai.

In all, 115 rooms have been booked for the three-day marathon of partying. Reports have hinted that stars such as film star Elizabeth Taylor, boxer Mike Tyson and singer Diana Ross could show up. Ross is currently on a concert tour of Germany.

The bash is the sort of star-studded party that formerly would have been held at Jackson's Neverland Ranch. But 46-year-old Jackson is said to feel the California ranch was tainted by the criminal allegations....

The Berlin plans also coincide with promotion of a planned reality TV show involving the entire Jackson family.

The six-episode show is to focus on how Michael's parents, Joe and Katherine, and eight siblings rallied around the entertainer after he was accused of child molestation in 2003 and how they are trying to overcome the scandal after the not-guilty verdicts....

Speaking of Germany, Rod Stewart got a good line off some time ago:

Rod Stewart balked at staying at the same Berlin hotel with Michael Jackson....Stewart was in Germany promoting his new album, "It Had to Be You: The Great American Songbook." His record company wanted to book him a room at the Adlon, where Wacko Jacko dangled his 8-month-old son from a 70-foot balcony. A staffer for J Records e-mailed Annie Challis of Stewart's management company and asked if the rocker could tolerate the flock of fans, bodyguards and paparazzi camped out at the Adlon. "Kindly find new hotel," Challis replied. "Bodyguards and fans fine, but cannot risk Rod being struck on the head by falling baby."

This made the news on the Bill Handel show this morning (at least the part about potentially moving to Berlin - not the part about Michael stiffing his father's party). Handel's comment about Jackson moving to Berlin? He'll fit right in.
