Country singer Mindy McCready...been charged with five crimes in Arizona in connection with helping authorities catch an alleged con artist....
"I understand that she helped the authorities in Arizona take down a con artist that conned her and 35 other celebrities, and she also helped the authorities in Florida identify him," [McCready attorney Dennis] Tomlin said.
"She did not know that she had been charged … period. She was under the impression that with her assistance in taking down this con artist, that she was free and clear," Tomlin said.
McCready is charged with two counts of unlawful use of transportation, one count each of taking the identity of another, attempted fraudulent schemes and artifices, unlawful imprisonment and hindering prosecution.
McCready is scheduled to be arraigned in court in Mohave County, Ariz., on July 29.
In May, McCready was arrested in Belle Meade and charged with driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license. Last year, she pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining the painkiller OxyContin at a suburban pharmacy and was fined $4,000, sentenced to three years of supervised probation and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service.
McCready had a No. 1 hit in 1996 with Guys Do It All the Time.

In 1995, country singer Ty Herndon was arrested on charges of indecent exposure and drug possession, less than two hours before he was to perform at a police convention in Texas.

Police say Anderson, 57, stole a Harry Potter DVD from a
supermarket and got into a fight with the officer outside the
store Monday night. Just last month Anderson, was charged with
drunk driving after police found her passed out in her car
along a highway. You may remember her from her hit song,
"Rose Garden."
