In which I take something to its illogical conclusion

Oh, please (emphasis mine):

Brad Pitt, ever the social activist, says he won't be marrying Angelina Jolie until the restrictions on who can marry whom are dropped.

"Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able," the 42-year-old actor reveals in Esquire magazine's October issue, on newsstands Sept. 19.

I'll grant that this article only quoted a very small portion of the Esquire article, but does Pitt really mean everyone?

If two men over the age of 18 are legally allowed to marry in every state, will Pitt still refuse to marry Jolie until 45 year old men can marry 9 year old boys?

If any human of any age is legally allowed to marry another human of any age in every state, will Pitt still refuse to marry Jolie until a male can marry an unlimited number of females, or males? (And vice versa?)

If any human of any age is legally allowed to marry any number of humans, will Pitt still refuse to marry Jolie until humans can legally marry an unlimited number of animals of any species whatsoever?

Angelina, don't hold your breath. Pitt's playing the field, and using "social activism" as an excuse not to marry you.

Pastor Shane has some thoughts on Pitt's daring stand:

Maybe Brad’s just trying to scare us! He’s actually going to LIVE WITH his girlfriend. What a rebel! Think how he’ll stand out in that “pristine and pure” world known as Hollywood. I guess he’s taking a stand…by living in one kind of sin (fornication), so he can support people who live in another kind of sin (homosexuality). WOW BRAD, what a crusader you are!

And then there's Rightlinx:

Brad Pitt may be a good actor, but a poor script is never convincing. He wants us to think that his nutty liberal ideals can never be compromised, but it sounds to me like this Hollywood activist is hoping that his bisexual sweetie will marry into the other team.

Laura isn't bowled over, either:

Brad Pitt says he and Angelina (who no one believed would get married anyway...it doesn't fit their liberal, hedonistic schtick) won't marry until everyone who wants to (read: gay people, me and my pet gerbil) can marry. Brad, don't kid yourself, she'll be moved onto her next victim long before you start thinking about proposing.

But it's not just Brad:

So Brad Pitt says that he'll marry when everyone can. Well, what he really means is that he'll marry when there is same-sex marriage. After all, everyone can marry - they just have to marry someone of the opposite sex.

Isn't Eva Longoria taking the same brave stance?

I think that it is absolutely appropriate that actors and actresses, the leaders of our society and our most important people, are taking action - well, inaction- to ensure the overthrow of traditional values.

Or not.

No word from Rosie yet.

I never expected them to get married at all. The thing I find so amusing is the fact that Pitt is so full of himself he actually thinks taking this stance will have an impact on our law makers. Not to Brad: no one but Angie and star crazed teenage girls give a damn.

I'll grant that the star crazed teenage girls are concerned, but I don't know about Angelina caring or not.
