Puzzlin' Evidence
All of you who have been reading this blog since day one have been waiting for me to explain "the supposed familial relationship between Brian Eno and Slim Whitman." It's very easy.

The Lie That Is True is that Brian Eno is Slim Whitman's son.

Now some may quibble about this since Eno was born in Woodbridge, Sussex on May 15, 1948 while Slim was in the Tampa, Florida area, playing baseball and starting his musical career. His Navy service was in the Pacific, nowhere near England (and well before 1947).

Further, if Slim Whitman had an illegitimate son, he would have fooled everyone:

[Slim Whitman] is also remembered by [Horace] Logan as a hard-working musician: “Slim was and still is one of the straightest, most decent individuals I ever encountered in show business. He had a strong enough character to steer clear of the bad habits that dogged or doomed so many other stars, plus the willingness to put in long hours perfecting his presentation.” Slim Whitman’s ability to work and live clean decidedly contrasted with the out-of-control life and career of Hank Williams.

Despite the truth, I still believe the Lie. Here is some evidence to back up my claim.

Take the musical evidence, please. Although the 30 second sound clip of "Deep Blue Day" that is available here doesn't clearly indicate this, once you get into the song, it's very clear that Eno is honoring Dad.

You might also want to check the two playlists that include both Eno and Whitman in a program. Look at Rich Hazelton, 9/25/1999 (Moonlight in Glory, Indian Love Call); Angela Miller, 3/29/2001 (Baby's On Fire, Indian Love Call, Here Come the Warm Jets). Sounds convincing to me.

In addition, there is mounting evidence on the web that Slim Whitman has lied about his age (by the simple trick of switching the last two digits in his birth year), presumably to make it seem impossible that he's Brian Eno's father. The following web sites, among others, list a 1942 (rather than 1924) birthday for Slim Whitman:

So, The Lie That Is True is a lie...and is true.
