I should have known this, but I didn't. I knew that the Spice Girls were a manufactured pop group, but I didn't know that they rejected the manufacturer Emphasis mine.

If all of the invented personalities makes Spice Girls seem manufactured, that's because they are to a certain extent. Every member of the group was active in England's theatrical, film, and modeling circuit, and they all responded to an advertisement requesting five "lively girls" for a musical group in the summer of 1993. The manager who placed the ad chose all five members of Spice Girls, yet the women rejected his plans for their career and set out on their own two months after forming. All five members moved into a house and went on the dole as they searched for a manager. By the end of 1995, the group had signed with Annie Lennox's manager Simon Fuller, and began writing songs with Elliot Kennedy. I don't think there has been an authentic, talented music group on the scene since the 1970s, and maybe early 80s. Just my opinion. Could be wrong.

I guess it depends upon how you define "authentic" and "group" and "scene." Some argue that Prince is not a group, and some argue that Depeche Mode isn't authentic, and some argue that talented bands never compromise their principles by getting signed (and thus joining the scene). I'd refer you to Depeche Mode's song "Everything Counts," but there's no authentic instruments in the song.

I have to admit I warm up more to "Blasphemous Rumours" than I do to "John the Revelator".
