Things that make you go yowza

In response to a post on the milk that is sometimes found in seeker-driven churches, I added the following comment:

I was in a Barnes & Noble this weekend and was surprised when I ran across a book by Rick Warren...on how to study the Bible. It isn't necessarily what I expected from him, but if he's encouraging people to turn to the Bible, I certainly can't fault that.

The book is called Rick Warren's Bible Study Methods:

This easy-to-understand book gives you not just one, but 12 methods for exploring the riches of God’s Word. At least one of them is exactly what you’re looking for – an approach that’s right for you, right where you’re at. Simple step-by-step instructions guide you through the how-to’s of the following methods:

• Devotional
• Chapter Summary
• Character Quality
• Thematic
• Biographical
• Topical
• Word Study
• Book Background
• Book Survey
• Chapter Analysis
• Book Synthesis
• Verse Analysis

This popular Bible study resource has been used by thousands of individuals, small groups, churches, and seminary classes to unlock the wonderful truths of Scripture. You can too. Rick Warren’s Bible Study Methods will help you develop a customized, personal approach to studying, understanding, and applying the Bible.

Opinions (as recorded at amazon.com) vary about this book:

Love Rick Warren but didn't love this book. Tedious and remedial. Sorry. Spend your money on "The Purpose Filled Life" instead.
I'm a Bible school student and had this text as one of two for a Bible Study Teaching Methods class. The book is an excellent resource for learning some basic methods of Bible study you can do on your own and then teach others to do as well.
This book is a great "how to" do daily bible study and devotion. The emphasis is on Bible study. It can take a new believer and over the years bring them to an expert on scripture, using highly sophisticated Bible study methods.
I used this book as a textbook in Bible college. This was my first exposure to Rick Warren. This book is a great resource for the serious Bible Student.
The book, while published in the early 1980's is still very relevant to today.
