My mind has been polluted and my energy diluted, but I don't care, I don't care, I don't care

I like The The. But I'll tell you one thing about Matt Johnson; he has a talent for taking a lyric and repeating it over and over, running it into the ground.

For example, the official lyrics to I've Been Waiting for Tomorrow (All of My Life) include these lines toward the end:

All my childhood dreams are dangling around my knees
My mind has been polluted and my energy diluted
My mind has been polluted and my energy diluted
MY MIND HAS BEEN POLLUTED AND MY ENERGY DILUTED

And that's probably an abbreviation of the real lyrics - it feels like he says it seven times, if not more.

Morrissey does the same. I had forgotten about the ending to the song There is a Light That Never Goes Out, but I did remember the middle part. Emphasis mine:

...And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine

Take me out tonight
Take me anywhere, I don’t care
I don’t care, I don’t care

And in the darkened underpass
I thought oh god, my chance has come at last
(but then a strange fear gripped me and i
Just couldn’t ask)...

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine

Oh, there is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out

Indeed.
