Depeche Mode Precious Revisited
Followup.
I am more aware than anyone that the first Depeche Mode single from an album gives you absolutely no clue about the contents of the album itself. "Dream On" was a guitar-based first single from the Kraftwerk-ish "Exciter" album, "Barrel of a Gun" was the throbbing first single from "Ultra," usw.
Knowing this, I listened to the 34 second song sample of "Precious" at the Depeche Mode website. Very synthetic, very electronic, very European.
I guess this means that the album itself is a collection of Gore-authored bluegrass and Gahan-authored Motown soul.
