This One's Even Older Than the SugarHill Gang
Still playing poker, and chatting (that's why they call it a Social Lounge, you know?).
The conversation turned to Gary Wright, who has his own website. I can't quote from the website, but I learned the following:
- The title "Dream Weaver" came from the writings of Paramahansa Yogananda; Harrison turned Wright on to this yogi.
- Wright studied post-graduate psychology.
- Wright was in a band with Mick Jones - not the Clash's Mick Jones, but Foreigner's Mick Jones.
- Wright claims that "The Dream Weaver" was the first keyboard/synthesizer album. (What about Kraftwerk? Walter Carlos?)
- How's this for sounding dated? Wright toured with Peter Frampton and Yes, and won a vocalist award from Don Kirschner.
- Tone Loc has sampled Gary Wright.
Printable lyrics to "Dream Weaver" and "Love Is Alive" are here.
