A truly international game

Holycoast has some fun:

No, that's not a star of the Mexican baseball league, that's one of the members of the Texas Rangers, or "Los Rangers" as they were known last night. The team decided to pander to their increasingly hispanic population base by changing their uniforms for Cinco de Mayo. Given that the Great American Boycott was only five days ago, I have to believe that this was a big PR blunder.

Just for last night's game, stolen bases were known as "undocumented bases", and no one was allowed to be thrown out.

There was a great article in the Los Angeles Times last week about the Hispanic influence in baseball, which pointed out - among other things- that 6 of the 10 top hitters this year are from Latin America.

I was mystified when the International Olympic Committee removed baseball as an Olympic sport. The thought was that they were striking a blow at the U.S. by doing so, but they also struck at all the nations in the Caribbean, not to mention Japan and Korea.
