They - Want - YOU!

Never got around to posting this:

Forget the YMCA, the Village People's original cop is headed to C-O-U-R-T.

A Bay Area judge on Tuesday set July 31 as the day Victor Edward Willis, the flamboyant disco band's former frontman, will stand trial on drug possession charges.

Prosecutors in San Mateo County, California, say the erstwhile Macho Man, 54, will face the music on charges stemming from a Mar. 26 arrest, when police allegedly discovered bags of cocaine and drug paraphernalia in his car during a routine traffic stop in South San Francisco and then lied to police about his identity.

The former music star, who cowrote and sang lead on the peppy party anthems "YMCA," "Macho Man," and "In the Navy," was bound over for trial after a San Mateo County judge ruled there was enough evidence against him in a preliminary hearing on Apr. 11....

According to authorities, after police discovered narcotics in his car last month, Willis, who had an outstanding warrant in a separate drug case, and his female companion, 40-year-old Staci Brandt, gave false names to the arresting officers.

Brandt eventually came clean and admitted that she was a prostitute. She subsequently pleaded no contest to drug possession and was sentenced to 60 days in jail and three years of probation.

This isn't the first time the former fake cop has run afoul of the law. Willis has two other cases pending against him. The first involves charges of cocaine possession and felony possession of a gun resulting from a July 11 bust--again coming after authorities pulled him over for a traffic stop, searched his car and, in this case, allegedly discovered crack cocaine, assorted drug paraphernalia and a loaded pistol in his vehicle.

Willis worked out a plea deal that would've landed him no more than 16 months behind bars, but, after being freed on $100,000 bail, he skipped out on a sentencing hearing in October. His lawyer claimed Willis needed to get some dental work done. But the judge didn't bite and issued a warrant for Willis' arrest....

At a court appearance on Apr. 19, a judge consolidated all the pending cases against Willis. He's due back in court for a pretrial hearing on July 3....

Willis cofounded the Village People in 1977 and helped define the band's hit sound before being replaced by Ray Simpson three years later, according to the Village People's official Website.

Simpson has remained in the police uniform to this day alongside the Cowboy, the Soldier, the Construction Worker, the Native American and the Biker.

The news in here? The news is that a Village People member was caught with a woman.

From the Ontario Empoblog (Latest OVVA news here)

nice wrapup comment:

The news in here? The news is that a Village People member was caught with a woman.

Caught with a woman? Simply shocking. You crack me up.
Perhaps he'll move to Mexico after he gets ouf of jail or prison or whatever.
pretty harsh for the worlds oldest profession. oh it was the drugs...i see. ;P
Completely off topic, but if Vicente Fox were allowed to run for re-election, he'd be signing that drugs legalization bill in a heartbeat. (For those who haven't heard, Fox has requested that the bill be reworked; he did NOT sign it.) To ensure his re-election, he'd HAVE to sign the bill to demonstrate his independence from the Yanquis; Mexican politicians are already accusing Fox of being Bush's lap dog.

Which is ironic, because some American politicians are accusing Bush of being Fox's lap dog. Nobel Peace Prize nominee Bill Handel joked this morning that Fox decided not to sign the bill because Bush promised Fox that we'd take another 20 million illegal aliens.
Back on topic - I thought I read once that half of the original Village People were gay, and the other half were not. I'll need to confirm this, once I satisfy my curiosity about the respectability of slave traders (the research life of a blogger is ruff, ain't it?).
