Wondering whatever happened to Paul Helms...
(Daily Bulletin sports readers: geddit?)

I recently mentioned Paul Helms, and wondered why he disappeared from the Daily Bulletin's sports pages. I found out why:

Paul Helms
Director of Sports Information

Paul Helms comes to Cal Poly Pomona after a lengthy career in newspapers. Entering his third year with Bronco athletics, Helms was a columnist and sports writer at the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin for 14 years. He wrote a sports column for several years and covered professional, college and high school events for the paper....

Before working for the Daily Bulletin, he worked for weekly newspapers in Lake Elsinore and Temecula. His first job was with the Yucaipa-Calimesa News-Mirror.

During his time with the Daily Bulletin, Helms covered two Super Bowls, four NBA Finals involving the Los Angeles Lakers, one Major League Baseball All-Star game, 11 Rose Bowls and three WBC welterweight championship bouts involving Sugar Shane Mosley. He wrote major profiles on athletes such as Mosley, Mark McGwire, Mike Sweeney and also wrote features the past two years on several Cal Poly Pomona competitors....

I'd just hate to be around him if a Cal Poly team lost two games in a row...
