My mother’s ancestors came to Ohio as part of a mass exodus of Quakers from North Carolina in the late 1700s....This migration was mainly due to their strong anti-slavery convictions, NC being a slave state. Many Quakers actually purchased slaves prior to leaving, who were then freed upon their arrival in the free territory of Ohio.
